Life in Gaza has always been a struggle, but for brothers Waseem and Khalil Al-Yazji, the weight of tragedy and survival has reached a breaking point. In one devastating moment, their family was wiped out in an Israeli airstrike, leaving them with nothing but the clothes on their backs and the responsibility of caring for six orphaned children.
Khalil, a volunteer medic at Al-Shifa Hospital, has dedicated his life to saving others. Yet, on one fateful day, his mission turned into personal heartbreak when he discovered the shattered remains of their parents, siblings, and extended family. Now, Khalil stands as the sole guardian of hope for his younger brother, Waseem, and his own gravely ill daughter, Tahreer.
“I lost everything,” says Waseem. “My family, my home, my dreams—all gone in an instant. Now, my brother and I live in a tent with the children who depend on us, fighting hunger, illness, and the unrelenting fear of death.”
The most urgent plea is for 3-year-old Tahreer. Pulled from the rubble, she survived but was left with severe injuries, including oxygen deprivation that has rendered her unable to stand or walk. Her only hope lies outside Gaza, where she can access the intensive medical care she desperately needs.
The Campaign’s Goals
The Al-Yazji brothers have launched a GoFundMe campaign, seeking $47,000 to rebuild their lives and save Tahreer. The funds will be allocated as follows:
- $20,000 for Tahreer’s Treatment: Covering medical costs to help her breathe, grow, and one day stand on her own.
- $7,000 for Clothing and Essentials: Providing basic necessities for six orphaned children and their caregivers.
- $20,000 for Relocation and Shelter: Securing safe passage from Gaza to begin a new chapter, free from the shadow of war.
A Call to Action
The Al-Yazji brothers are asking the global community to open their hearts and extend a hand of mercy. Every dollar brings them closer to safety, hope, and a chance for Tahreer to live a life of dignity.
“This isn’t just about us,” says Waseem. “It’s about ensuring that an innocent child, who has already endured so much, has a chance to smile, to walk, and to live free from pain.”
