Health issues forced mother to move back to Indiana. Trying to give daughter chance to stay close to her hometown in tennessee and to have a chance to live with her dad. There are many family and friends that say they are willing to help, but with the hardships that most already have, it looks like finishing the school year here will be near impossible. Sending the child to live with her mother 8 is not a good option either
Lauren was born and raised in Dickson and grew up for the most part in the White Bluff area. She has been moved around a little over the years, but for the most part still considers White Bluff and Dickson her home.
A few years ago she was moved out of state with her mother to Indiana. Though it was another small town in which she spent the last couple of years there, it never quite had the same feel. She did manage to make a few friends and stay active in sports and was even getting used to the area.
This past year she was moved back to Dickson and had been enrolled in Dickson County High School as a sophomore. It still wasn’t the same as White Bluff or Creekwood High or to the school in Indiana in which she had just started to accept. She did not a adjust quickly but after five months she finally started to feel very welcomed there and had her close group of friends, favorite teachers and just the right classes that she wanted to be in. She finally has a shot at trying out for their softball team if she can return in time, softball is her passion and something she had always hoped to possibly make a career of. In some ways that seems to have recently changed. She has a couple of really great teachers that seems to have inspired her to become a teacher herself.
Recently back in November there were a chain of events that once again flipped her world upside down. With her mother going from one small health issue to greater complications in which many feared the worst may happen, changes once again had to be considered and made. In November, Not knowing what outcome to expect for her mother the decision was made that Lauren needs to go live with her dad for an indefinite period of time. Her mother for the moment is doing much better and making a full recovery. However, due to many circumstances Lauren’s mom has relocated back to Indiana.
Lauren was allowed to continue in DCHS until Christmas break, but inevitably had to transfer to the school that is properly zoned for her father’s out of county residence. Having completed the enrollment process there, this seems to have been a big mistake. The classes and opportunities available just aren’t the same. The school is very different and has a very diversified student body which leaves Lauren feeling like the minority that nobody wants around. This is nothing like she has experienced before and the likelihood if finding the same quality of friends and teachers she just doesn’t believe exists.
Choir is one class that is very add special to her and it unbelievably is not available in the new school.Being in her sophomore year it is saddening to see her trying to make a transition in a place that doesn’t seem to have the space to make a good transition. She is hoping that it will be possible to return to DCHS as there are members of friends of the family and family that have offered to help with logistics. This is still a lot to ask and is not something that she can depend on 100% from any one of them, though they each hope to get to see her complete school in Dickson or at least this school year. Lauren has been advised that the cost may be much more than the goal we have set here with out of county tuition which is prorated to about $800 and all expenses for the friends and family involved that are trying to make this happen for her.
The school board has accepted her out of county application and requires half of the tuition up front. She still has a chance to keep per part in the school play as well as the opportunity to try out for the softball team. This week seek seems to be the deadline to still participate in those activities. She only currently needs $400 more to complete the enrollment process. The rest that she is hoping to raise will be applied or used as the expenses of tuition and assistance from friends and family for travel, gas, ect,.
We are not requesting much from any one person. Every little bit adds up and will help. If you are able to help with a couple dollars, $5, $10, whatever it may be, it will be greatly appreciated. At the very least, I ask that you include her in your prayers.
