I hope you’re having a good day so far.
I’m reaching out to you because I have many deaf friends in America and Canada and I wanted to share my story with you.
Being born Deaf, BSL (British Sign Language) is my 1st Language and communication is key in the Deaf Community. Having been through a great deal of experiences in my life, not all good, I must say, I reach out and help others in the Deaf Community, whether it is to just be a shoulder for someone to offload onto or help and guide someone through situations they are currently going through, usually very similar to mine, especially through these current unsettling times we are going through.
Being Deaf, it is extremely hard ‘fitting in the world’ especially as the world is predominately Hearing. Not being able to communicate is at the forefront frustrating & tiring and causes boundaries between people.
This often leads to isolation, loneliness and very often depression, not just to Deaf people in the UK but around the World.
ASL (American Sign Language) is used in a lot more countries than BSL.
In ASL I have completed a basic course, however rather than just ‘message support’ friends and people who need someone, I would love to be able to help face to face, my friends in America, Canada and across the ASL world.
However, the cost of learning a new Language is rather great, I have some savings which I am using, however, to help with the rest of the costs.
The Initial monies needed to get me through ASL Level one is approx £1400+ (US $1902).
If you could support my GoFundMe, helping me help others, by making a donation and then sharing it with your network, I would greatly appreciate it. I know that money can be tight, so please know that even £1 helps me get closer to my goal! Let me know if you have any questions and I’ll be happy to answer them.
