Max loves Batman, going to pre-primary with his friends and playing with his two brothers Sam (7) and Jai (2). This year, just months before his 5th birthday, Max was diagnosed with Stage 4 Neuroblastoma, a serious type of childhood cancer. Neuroblastoma is a non-genetic form of cancer, and is a solid tumor which arises from specific nerve cells which line the spinal cord. Neuroblastoma is rare, with a 1 in 100,000 chance that a child will have this type cancer. Approximately 40 children in United States are diagnosed with Neuroblastoma every year.
Max is currently having treatment to fight the cancer, which involves chemotherapy, surgery, stem cell treatment, radiation and more, plus countless hours of waiting at hospital and travelling to and from their home. With the additional costs of the many extras required in these circumstances, they will also have a significant loss of income as treatment progresses and intensifies, when both parents are required for care and support of not just Max, but Sam and Jai also.
Max is a gorgeous kid from an amazing loving family. This page has been set up to put the support of the Winthrop community (and beyond) to use for Max and his family, as they navigate their way through this difficult journey. Thank you in advance of your support! Please feel free to contribute as little or as much as you would like, as every bit counts.
