See that adorable lady dancing in the photo? That’s my 89-year-old mom, at my wedding in 2017. “Sexyback” was playing, and she couldn’t resist.
Sadly, about 6 weeks ago, she had an accident, a bad fall (not while dancing). She shattered her left wrist, and broke a bone in her hip.
Luckily, Medicare covered her surgeries and most of her rehab treatment, but now the rehab facility has sent her home, telling my siblings and I that she needs 24-hour custodial care. Medicare won’t cover it. The state will cover about 100 hours a month, so even if we find qualified people to take those hours, that leaves about 620 hours uncovered.
We found someone to watch her for a very reasonable rate, but the 3 of us still cannot afford the cost. We are prepared to deplete whatever savings we have (and I don’t have much, sadly), but that’s not enough to cover the costs of her care right now, assuming she’ll need 24-hour care for at least the next month or so, and extensive help afterward.
I’ve never tried to crowdfund anything before, but we need the money quickly, and I can’t think of another way to get it. Any money I raise here will go toward my mother’s care. Feel free to ask questions, if you have any. Thanks so much for any help you can give us.
