The project involves building an aquaponics farm and greenhouse in Madagascar with all these advantages. Aquaponics is seen as the future of agriculture that can fit all the criteria of environment and food needs . AGRICULTURE OF THE FUTURE , IDEAL AGRICULTURE , URBAN AGRICULTURE , AGRICULTURE RESPONSIBLE , SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE ,
What’s growing on here then?
Building a high-performance farm produce without destroying , respecting the environment , contribute to sustainable development, ensure a healthy diet without being limited by the season, participating in the fight against climate change.
AMI ( Aquaponic Madagascar Initiative) is a farm based on the use of technical Aquaponics both innovative and ancient ( technique used for millennia in Asia ( rice-fish farming ) and Latin America among the Aztecs ( chinampas ) )
Fresh food grown near the city in an environmentally sustainable and commercially scalable manner . aquaponics is the technology that can produce fish and vegetables in a recirculating rearing system .
What is Aquaponics?
Aquaponics combines two techniques of agriculture , hydroponics ( soilless ) and aquaculture ( raising fish and other aquatic organisms ) . All plants extract their nutrients from water aquaculture and through this process of removal of nutrients , water is cleaned again .
GENESIS
It’s part of my job is making a search of a project that aquaponics aroused my curiosity. A food production technique almost unknown in Madagascar which is 80 % farmer.
Why aquaponics is better?
It is an ecological way, healthy, sustainable and natural produce food that meets both the best qualities of aquaculture and hydroponics without the need to reject water from the filter (consumption water is low, especially compared to other cultivation methods) or use chemical fertilizers. The plants are fed by fish excretions. Therefore, production of vegetables succeeds without the addition of additional nutrients and compared to conventional methods of producing aquaponics is very resource efficient.
Where will the project be implemented?
A Vontovorona near ESPA ( Higher Polytechnic School of Antananarivo) A 22 km from the city center, on a plot of 70 m2.
AGRICULTURE OF THE FUTURE URBAN AGRICULTURE , SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE
AMI is part of sustainable development and can participate actively. The three pillars of sustainable development is respected by aquaponics .
Economic efficiency, ensure sound and sustainable management , without prejudice to the environment and society.
Social equity , meeting basic human needs food, health, reducing inequalities between individuals , respecting their cultures.
Environmental quality, long-term preservation of natural resources , maintaining the major ecological balances and reducing environmental impacts.
2. AMI can locate in urban areas without problems.
need to till the soil ( hydroponics )
water saving 90 to 95 % compared to traditional agriculture,
no waste ( nothing is lost in aquaponics . )
energy saving
economy work : no watering and no weeding
almost autonomous
without pesticide and herbicide
Versatile
Aquaponics is the ideal method of cultivation in urban and suburban areas. The productivity of the fact aquaponics culture through excellence in town. While producing healthy fish , providing organic fruits and vegetables , eliminating fertilizers and reducing the input of traditional agriculture , aquaponics is definitely part of the new farming methods that will make organic farming tomorrow .
