Our mother, Colleen, has been diagnosed with stage four cancer. As her condition worsens it is becoming more difficult for my brother and I to provide care for her. Our mothers condition is unique in that she has suffered with severe mental illness her entire life. As a result she is a recipient of ODSP which provides some great resources and benefits for her to get treatment but leaves her with bare minimum in other areas such as housing. As a result, I am seeking people’s support to help raise funds to move her to a better equipped living environment. This way we can ensure that our mother is safe and accommodated as she lives out her final days.
In addition to our mother requiring a great amount of medical care and supervision, Her current landlord has given her notice to vacate her apartment by December 31 on the grounds that he needs to “bring the building back up to code.” We have opinions on the subject as to why the landlord would choose to do this while our mother is in a terminal state. But we will spare you them and allow you to make your own conclusions.
