Hello my name is Sharon, I’m the mother of 4 children. Krista (15) Samantha (11) Ethan (8) and Alexander (4) Life has thrown us a lot of curve balls this year. Along with dealing with Black mold in my 2 bedroom condo, My 4 year old son Alexander, AJ for short, was diagnosed with severe scoliosis. He needed to be put under in order to get an MRI to see if he needed a rod in his back or a back cast.
When he was born we found out that he had a small hole in his heart. Due to the scoliosis tests he needed to see his cardiologist and have more tests done to see if he could handle the drugs.
At his last visit they discovered that the hole grew even larger and only one of his heart valves are functioning properly.
Therefore, he needs to have open heart surgery to repair his heart valve and the hole in his heart.
My insurance company informed me that they will only pay for 60% of the surgery.
I work part time as a shift manager at our local pharmacy and my husband works full time as a postal worker. We do ok but not well enough to handle the monthly bills that will come with paying the hospital back, and I’ll also have to take a leave of absence without pay at my job to care for AJ in his recovery.
This is what Alexander has and is having done plus valve repair.
He has a large hole in his heart.
Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD)
http://www.heart.org/HEARTORG/Conditions/CongenitalHeartDefects/AboutCongenitalHeartDefects/Ventricular-Septal-Defect-VSD_UCM_307041_Article.jsp#mainContent Once he has recovered he will still need to have his scoliosis taken care of.
I don’t like asking for help, but in this case I have to swallow my pride and do what’s in the best interest of my child!
Any contribution you could make would be helpful and greatly appreciated.
